Washington State University, also known as Washington State, WSU, or informally Wazzu, is a public land-grant research university located in Pullman, Washington. It was founded in 1890 and is considered one of the oldest land-grant universities in the American West. WSU's flagship and oldest campus is situated in Pullman. The university is classified as "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity." WSU's athletic teams are called the Cougars, and the school's colors are crimson and gray. The university's men's and women's varsity teams compete in NCAA Division I in the Pac-12 Conference, and both the men's and women's indoor track teams participate in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
