About University

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is a public research university located in Richmond, Virginia. It was established in 1838 as the medical department of Hampden–Sydney College and later became known as the Medical College of Virginia in 1854. The university comprises 11 schools and three colleges, offering a diverse range of degree and certificate programs. VCU is also supported by the VCU Health System, which plays a crucial role in healthcare education, research, and patient care. The university has a strong focus on research, evident from its significant sponsored research funding of $464 million in the fiscal year 2023.
