The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UW–Milwaukee, UWM, or Milwaukee) is a public urban research university located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is the largest university in the Milwaukee metropolitan area and a member of the University of Wisconsin System. As one of the two doctoral degree-granting research universities in the state, it is the second largest university in Wisconsin. It is classified as "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity." In 2018, the university had a research expenditure of $55 million.
