University of Wisconsin Madison

The University of Wisconsin–Madison (UW–Madison or simply Madison) is a public land-grant research university located in Madison, Wisconsin. Established in 1848 when Wisconsin achieved statehood, UW–Madison is the official state university of Wisconsin and the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System. It became a land-grant institution in 1866. the university had research and development expenditures of $1.4 billion, ranking eighth among U.S. universities. Notable affiliations include 20 Nobel laureates, 41 Pulitzer Prize winners, two Fields medalists, and one Turing Award recipient. UW–Madison is a leading producer of Fulbright Scholars and MacArthur Fellows. It is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity."
