The University of the Pacific (Pacific or UOP) is a private university originally established as a Methodist-affiliated institution. Its main campus is located in Stockton, California, with graduate campuses in San Francisco and Sacramento. The university is home to the papers of environmental pioneer John Muir, housed in Pacific's Holt-Atherton Special Collections and Archives. Additionally, Pacific has a John Muir Center that hosts a Muir Symposium to promote the use of John Muir's Papers. The William Knox Holt Memorial Library at Pacific features a museum-style presentational space for Muir's Papers, offering a Muir Experience with physical and digital exhibits to inspire user interaction with Muir's work.
