The University of San Diego (USD) is a private Roman Catholic research university located in San Diego, California. It was chartered in July 1949 as the independent San Diego College for Women and San Diego University, which consisted of the College for Men and School of Law. These two institutions merged in 1972. Since then, the university has expanded to include nine schools, such as the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES), Knauss School of Business, and the Division of Professional and Continuing Education.
