The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is a public land-grant research university located in Paradise, Nevada. The campus is situated about 1.6 miles east of the Las Vegas Strip. UNLV was previously a part of the University of Nevada between 1957 and 1969. The university includes the Shadow Lane Campus, which is positioned just east of the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. This campus is home to both the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine. UNLV is also known for its law school, the William S. Boyd School of Law, which is the only law school in the state. The university is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity" institution. In 2018, UNLV allocated $83 million for research and development, ranking it 165th in the nation according to the National Science Foundation.
