The University of Maryland, College Park, also known as UMD or Maryland, is a public research university located in College Park, Maryland. It was established in 1856 and is considered the flagship institution of the University System of Maryland. UMD is recognized as the largest university in both the state and the Washington metropolitan area. It consists of 12 schools and colleges, offering a wide range of degree programs.
