The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public land-grant research university system with its main campus located in Storrs, Connecticut. Founded in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School, the institution was named after two brothers who donated the land for the school. In 1893, it transitioned into a public land-grant college and was officially renamed the University of Connecticut in 1939. UConn is a founding member of the Hartford/Springfield regional economic and cultural partnership alliance known as New England's Knowledge Corridor. It is the second U.S. university invited into Universitas 21, an international network of 24 research-intensive universities.
