The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is a public land-grant research university located in Los Angeles, California. Its academic roots date back to 1881 when it was established as a normal school known as the southern branch of the California State Normal School (now San José State University). It officially became UCLA UCLA student-athletes, known as the Bruins, compete in the Pac-12 Conference and have achieved notable success with 121 NCAA team championships, the second-highest in the nation.
