Towson University (TU or Towson) is a public university located in Towson, Maryland. Established in 1866 as Maryland's first training school for teachers, Towson University is a member of the University System of Maryland. Over the years, the university has grown and now comprises eight subsidiary colleges, serving a student population of over 20,000. The university's 329-acre campus is situated in Baltimore County, Maryland, approximately eight miles north of downtown Baltimore.
