The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is a prestigious private art school located in Chicago, Illinois. It is closely affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC). SAIC has a rich history dating back to 1866 when it was established as an art students' cooperative. Over the years, it has transformed into both a museum and a school. SAIC has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1936, making it a recognized institution of higher education. Additionally, it has been a charter member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design since 1944.
