The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is a prestigious private art school located in Chicago, Illinois. It is closely affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC). SAIC has a rich history dating back to 1866 when it was established as an art students' cooperative. Over the years, it has transformed into both a museum and a school. SAIC has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1936, making it a recognized institution of higher education. Additionally, it has been a charter member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design since 1944. In 1991, SAIC became one of the founding members of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD).
