Prairie View A&M University, also known as PVAMU or PV, is a public university situated in Prairie View, Texas. Founded in 1876, it holds the distinction of being one of Texas's two land-grant universities and is the second oldest public institution of higher education in the state. PVAMU is recognized as the largest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Texas and ranks as the third largest HBCU in the entire United States. The university is classified as "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".
