New York University

New York University (NYU) is a private research university located in New York City. It was chartered in 1831 by the New York State Legislature and founded in 1832 by a group of New Yorkers led by Albert Gallatin. The university was established as a non-denominational all-male institution near City Hall, with a curriculum focused on secular education. In 1833, NYU moved its main campus to Greenwich Village, which surrounds Washington Square Park. Over time, the university expanded by adding an engineering school in Brooklyn's MetroTech Center and graduate schools throughout Manhattan.
