Morgan State University, also known as Morgan State or MSU, is located in Baltimore, Maryland. It has a rich history as a public historically black research university and is the largest of Maryland's historically black colleges and universities. The university was originally called the Centenary Biblical Institute but later changed its name to Morgan College in honor of Reverend Lyttleton Morgan, who was the first chairman of its board of trustees and a generous land donor to the college. In 1975, it was designated as a university. Morgan State is a proud member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. It is important to note that while it is a public institution, Morgan State is not part of the University System of Maryland. It is classified as an "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity."
