It is a part of the University of Louisiana System and is classified as an "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity" institution. Established in 1894 during the Second Industrial Revolution, Louisiana Tech initially focused on providing education in the arts and sciences to contribute to the development of an industrial economy in post-Reconstruction Louisiana.
