Louisiana State University, commonly known as LSU, is a public research university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was established in 1860 as Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy. The campus, dedicated in 1926, features over 250 buildings designed by Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. Situated on a 650-acre plateau along the Mississippi River, the main campus has a rich historical district. LSU conducts numerous sponsored research projects, funded by prestigious agencies like the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and NASA. Additionally, LSU is among the few universities in the United States that offer dental, law, veterinary, medical, and Master of Business Administration programs. It is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity."
