Hood College, located in Frederick, Maryland, has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1893. Originally known as the Woman's College of Frederick, it was founded by the Potomac Synod of the Reformed Church in the United States. Initially, it catered exclusively to female students until 1971 when the college decided to admit men, initially as commuters. In 2003, the college extended the option for male students to have residential status. Hood College prides itself on its diverse student body, with a significant portion of students belonging to under-represented racial or ethnic populations or coming from foreign countries.
