Fordham University is a prestigious private university located in New York City. It was founded in 1841 and is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit university in the northeastern United States. The university was named after the Fordham neighborhood in the Bronx, where its original campus is situated. Although it was initially governed by the church, Fordham has been independent since 1969.
