Ferris State University, also known as FSU or Ferris, is a public university located in Big Rapids, Michigan. It was founded in 1884 by Woodbridge N. Ferris as the Big Rapids Industrial School. In 1950, it became a public institution. The university has a satellite campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ferris State University offers a wide range of academic programs through its eight academic colleges. These programs include undergraduate, master's, specialist, and doctoral level programs. The university offers degrees in various fields such as engineering, business, marketing, visual media, communication, and health-related support services. It also grants professional doctoral degrees in optometry and pharmacy. Additionally, Ferris State University offers a multidisciplinary doctorate of education in community college leadership. The university's athletic teams, known as the Ferris State Bulldogs, compete in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in most sports. However, the men's ice hockey team is part of the NCAA Division I Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
