DePaul University is a private Catholic research university located in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded in 1898 by the Vincentians and is named after Saint Vincent de Paul, a 17th-century French priest. The university has a strong commitment to recruiting first-generation students and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, following the values of its founders. DePaul has two campuses, one in Lincoln Park and the other in the Loop. The Lincoln Park campus is home to the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Science and Health, and Education, as well as the School of Music, The Theater School, and the John T. Richardson Library. The Loop campus houses the College of Communication, Computing and Digital Media, the College of Law, the School of Public Service, the School for New Learning, and the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business. It also has several libraries and a Student Center. DePaul is classified as an "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity" institution. The university has a diverse student body, with students coming from various religious, ethnic, and geographic backgrounds, including over 60 foreign countries. DePaul's athletic teams, known as the DePaul Blue Demons, compete in the Big East Conference. The men's basketball team has a successful history, with 18 NCAA tournament appearances and two Final Fours. The softball team has also achieved notable success, winning their third consecutive Big East Tournament title in 2019 and making their 21st NCAA Tournament appearance under head coach Tracie Adix-Zins.
