15 JulChicago State University (CSU) is a historically significant institution in Chicago, Illinois. It has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1867 as the Cook County Normal School. Originally, it was established as a progressive teachers college. Throughout the years, the school's administration changed hands, transitioning from county control to the Chicago Public Schools. This transition led to its renaming as Chicago Teachers College (CTC). In 1949, Northeastern Illinois University emerged as a branch campus of CTC. The college received state funding in 1951 and eventually came under state control in 1965, evolving into a comprehensive state college. Finally, in 1967, it was officially designated as Chicago State University. CSU is a proud member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and holds accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission.
