01 JulThe Catholic University of America (CUA) is a private Catholic research university located in Washington, D.C. It was founded by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and is recognized as a pontifical university of the Catholic Church in the United States. CUA was established in 1887 and initially focused on graduate and research programs. However, undergraduate education was introduced in 1904. The university is classified as an "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity" institution. Situated in the Brookland neighborhood, which is often referred to as "Little Rome," CUA shares its surroundings with numerous Catholic institutions including Trinity Washington University, the Dominican House of Studies, Archbishop Carroll High School, and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
