about university

About University

Boston College (BC) is a private Jesuit research university located in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Established in 1863, the university retains the term "college" in its name, reflecting its historical origins as a small liberal arts college. The university offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees through its eight colleges and schools. Boston College's main campus is a designated historic district and showcases some of the earliest examples of collegiate Gothic architecture in North America. In line with its Jesuit heritage, the university emphasizes a liberal arts curriculum with a focus on formative education and service to others. The athletic teams at Boston College are known as the Eagles, and their colors are maroon and gold. The mascot is Baldwin the Eagle. The Eagles compete in NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in all sports offered by the ACC. The men's and women's ice hockey teams participate in Hockey East. Alumni and affiliates of Boston College include governors, ambassadors, members of Congress, scholars, writers, medical researchers, Hollywood actors, and professional athletes. The university has produced notable individuals such as U.S. Speaker of the House, a U.S. Secretary of State, and chief executives of Fortune 500 companies. Boston College has also graduated Rhodes, Truman, and Fulbright scholars. It is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity."
