Binghamton University, also known as SUNY Binghamton, is a public research university located in New York. It has campuses in Binghamton, Vestal, and Johnson City. The university is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, which consists of four university centers. Over the years, Binghamton University has evolved from a small liberal arts college to a prominent research institution. It is classified as an "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity." The university's athletic teams, called the Bearcats, compete in Division I of the NCAA and are members of the America East Conference.
