Ball State University, also known as Ball State, State, or BSU, is a public research university located in Muncie, Indiana. It was founded in 1918 when the Ball brothers, who were industrialists and founders of the Ball Corporation, donated the school and surrounding land to the State of Indiana. The university is classified as "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity" and consists of seven academic colleges. Ball State offers a wide range of academic programs, including undergraduate majors, minor areas of study, and various graduate degrees. The university's athletic teams, called the Ball State Cardinals, compete in Division I of the NCAA and are part of the Mid-American Conference and the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. Recently, in the fall of 2020, Ball State established a varsity esports team and joined the Esports Collegiate Conference.
