Auburn University, located in Auburn, Alabama, USA, is a public land-grant research university. Auburn pioneered coeducation in Alabama, becoming the state's first four-year coeducational school in 1892. It was later renamed Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1899 and then Auburn University in 1960 to reflect its expanded academic programs and comprehensive curriculum. The university has an additional campus in Montgomery, which is governed by the Auburn University Board of Trustees as part of the Auburn University system.
