The University of Westminster, located in London, United Kingdom, has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1838 as the Royal Polytechnic Institution. It holds the distinction of being the first polytechnic to open in London. The university received a Royal charter in August 1839 and was officially renamed the University of Westminster in 1992.
