The University of Reading is a renowned public research university located in Reading, Berkshire, England. Established in 1892 as University College, Reading, it originally served as an extension college of the University of Oxford. However, in 1926, the institution gained the authority to confer its own degrees through a royal charter granted by King George V. Notably, it was the sole university to receive such a charter during the interwar period. The university is often classified as a red brick university due to its historical origins in the 19th century. It encompasses four primary campuses, including London Road and Whiteknights within Reading, as well as Greenlands situated along the banks of the River Thames in Buckinghamshire. Moreover, the university boasts an additional campus in Iskandar Puteri, Malaysia. Since 2016, the university has been organized into 16 academic schools. Although specific financial figures are omitted, the institution's annual income for the 2022–23 period was substantial, with a significant portion derived from research grants and contracts.
