The University of Oxford is a prestigious collegiate research university located in Oxford, England. It has a rich history, with evidence of teaching dating back to 1096, making it the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the second-oldest university in continuous operation globally. The university experienced significant growth from 1167 onwards, following a ban on English students attending the University of Paris by King Henry II. In 1209, due to conflicts between students and the local townspeople, some academics migrated to Cambridge and established what is now known as the University of Cambridge. These two institutions, Oxford and Cambridge, are collectively referred to as Oxbridge. Oxford has a distinguished list of alumni, including numerous prime ministers of the United Kingdom, heads of state, and government officials from all over the world. The university has also been associated with several esteemed individuals, such as Nobel Prize laureates, Fields Medalists, Turing Award winners, and Olympic medalists. Additionally, Oxford is renowned for its scholarship programs, including the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, which is one of the oldest international graduate scholarship programs.
