About University

University College Dublin, also known as UCD, is a renowned public research university in Dublin, Ireland. It is a member institution of the National University of Ireland. UCD has a rich history, originating from a body founded in 1854. It was initially established as the Catholic University of Ireland and later re-formed in 1880. The university was officially chartered in 1908. UCD's main campus is located at Belfield, which spans 133 hectares (330 acres) and is situated six kilometers south of Dublin city center. The university's faculties were previously located at St Stephen's Green in the city center. In addition to its main campus, UCD also acquired a second site in Blackrock, which currently houses the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. UCD has a strong academic reputation and has produced notable alumni, including Nobel Laureates, Taoisigh (Prime Ministers), Irish Presidents, and even a President of India. The university has made significant contributions to the Irish economy, as a report published in May 2015 highlighted that UCD and its students generate an annual economic output of €1.3 billion in Ireland.
