Dublin City University, also known as DCU, is a university located in the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. It was originally established as the National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin in 1975 and started accepting students in 1980. In September 1989, it achieved university status along with the NIHE Limerick, which is now known as the University of Limerick. In September 2016, DCU completed the process of incorporating four other Dublin-based educational institutions: the Church of Ireland College of Education, All Hallows College, Mater Dei Institute of Education, and St Patrick's College.
