University of Toronto

The University of Toronto, also known as UToronto or U of T, is a renowned public research university situated in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the beautiful grounds surrounding Queen's Park. Established in 1827 as King's College, it holds the distinction of being the first institution of higher education in Upper Canada. Originally affiliated with the Church of England, the university transitioned into a secular institution in 1850 and adopted its current name. Being a collegiate university, UToronto is composed of 11 colleges, each with considerable independence in financial and institutional matters, as well as unique characteristics and histories. The university maintains three campuses, the oldest of which is St. George, situated in the heart of downtown Toronto. Additionally, there are two satellite campuses located in Scarborough and Mississauga. The University of Toronto boasts an impressive list of alumni, including five Prime Ministers of Canada, such as William Lyon Mackenzie King and Lester B. Pearson. It has also produced three Governors Generals of Canada, nine foreign leaders, and 17 justices of the Supreme Court of Canada. Furthermore, the university has been affiliated with numerous distinguished individuals, including 12 Nobel laureates, six Turing Award winners, 94 Rhodes Scholars, and one Fields Medalist, as of 2019.
