About University
The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a public research university located in Tasmania, Australia. It was founded in 1890 and is one of the oldest universities in Australia. Christ College, a residential college affiliated with UTAS, was proposed in 1840 and established in 1846. The college was inspired by the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. UTAS is a sandstone university and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in various disciplines. It is also affiliated with 20 specialist research institutes and cooperative research centers. The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at UTAS has made significant contributions to the university's research excellence ratings. UTAS also provides tertiary education through the Australian Maritime College, which is the national center for maritime education, training, and research.
