RMIT University, formerly known as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, has a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1887 by Francis Ormond. Originally, RMIT served as a night school offering courses in art, science, and technology to meet the needs of Australia's industrial revolution. It transitioned from being a private college to a university in 1992 after merging with the Phillip Institute of Technology. The main campus of RMIT is situated on the northern edge of Melbourne's historic Hoddle Grid, placing it conveniently in the city center. In addition to the primary campus, RMIT has satellite campuses in Brunswick and Bundoora, both located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Other facilities include a training site at the RAAF Williams base in Point Cook, a training site at Bendigo Airport in Bendigo, and a research site in Hamilton near the Grampians National Park. RMIT has expanded its presence beyond Australia, with branch campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, as well as a training center in Da Nang, Vietnam. The university also maintains teaching partnerships in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. Furthermore, RMIT operates a research and collaboration center in Barcelona, Spain, extending its reach to Europe.
